 Third cohort for NRHA Rural Hospital CNO Certification Program launches

 [Kansas City, Mo.] – The National Rural Health Association’s (NRHA) Rural Hospital CNO Certification Program launched its third cohort in April 2022. 

Leadership makes the difference. Today’s rural hospitals and clinics face tremendous challenges and uncertainty and are closing at an unprecedented rate. One in every three rural hospitals has been identified as “at risk.” According to NRHA CEO Alan Morgan, leadership is the biggest predicter of rural hospital success. 

NRHA’s Rural Health Leadership Education Foundation exists to fund programs that nurture current and future leaders. The April 2022 cohort consists of the following participants:

  • Adelaida Vargas de Yanez - Jerold Phelps Community Hospital - Garberville, Calif.
  • Amy Peck - Pioneers Medical Center - Meeker, Colo.
  • Bethany Carder - Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics - Clarion, Iowa
  • Michelle Andersen - Manning Regional Healthcare Center - Manning, Iowa
  • April Spencer - Ellett Memorial Hospital - Appleton City, Mo.
  • Michelle Jelliff - Guthrie Troy Community Hospital - Troy, Penn.
  • Latressa Kennedy - Abbeville Area Medical Center - Abbeville, S.C.
  • Sheron Cox - South Lincoln Hospital District - Kemmerer, Wyo.
  • Rachel Smith - Lincoln Community Hospital - Hugo, Colo.
  • Rebecca Shutts - Vermont Health Network & Alice Hyde Medical - Malone, N.Y.
  • Amy McMillen - Allen Parish Community Healthcare - Kinder, Lou.
  • Nicole Haglund - Providence Medical Center - Wayne, Neb.
  • Kristy Wiltrout - Vernon Memorial Healthcare - Viroqua, Wisc.
  • Meghan Campbell - Hillsdale Hospital - Hillsdale, Mich.
  • Vickie Gibbs - Phillips County Health Systems - Phillipsburg, Kans.

About NRHA’s Rural Hospital CNO Certification Program: NRHA’s Rural Hospital CNO Certification Program was developed by successful rural hospital CNOs for rural hospital CNOs to help them strengthen their leadership skills and lead their hospital to success. An individual with this certification will immediately be recognized as someone qualified to be a nurse leader in a rural hospital with excellence.
